Scholarship to Stuttgart’s John Cranko Schule

I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation to Katie Haines and the numerous volunteers and sponsors of The 2015 Alana Haines Awards.  I feel very privileged to have been awarded a three-week scholarship to The John Cranko Schule based in Stuttgart, Germany, which I gratefully attended in October 2015.

This experience has been a life changing opportunity that has allowed me to grow both in myself as an individual and as a dancer.

Mr Matacz, Staff and students attending The John Cranko Schule, were both friendly and inspiring.  I was very fortunate to be invited into the Full Time Program of both Class 5 and Class 6 Levels.  I was also able to enjoy the challenges of the Vaganova Method which were both fascinating and a lovely contrast to the Royal Academy Of Dance Syllabus I study in Australia. My classes each day were composed of Classical Ballet, Classical Repertoire and on the occasion Modern Dance, all of which I truly enjoyed.

A component of my scholarship enabled me to board with the other International Students attending The John Cranko Schule, and also attend daily German Education, an experience I am both grateful for and of which I have made some lifelong friendships.  I am thankful to Mr Matacz and the staff of the John Cranko Schule for welcoming me into their school and allowing me to learn from such gifted professionals.

I feel very fortunate to have been given the opportunity to participate in the Alana Haines Awards in both 2013 and 2015. I am thankful for my amazing teachers, Prudence Bowen, Heidi Landford and Veronika Sheremetieva for encouraging dancers like me, to reach for the stars and enjoy the learning experiences that are made available.

The AHA Competition is definitely one of the highlights of my journey in following my dreams to one day becoming professional dancer.
