My visit to MSCD was fun, valuable and extremely memorable.  I attended the Elite Performance Training Full Time programme for a week and thoroughly enjoyed myself.

All of the tutors were so warm and welcoming and had a huge wealth of knowledge that they imparted with passion.  A highlight of my week were the open classes I attended as they were taught by various teachers with different styles of teaching.  Some of the classes I took throughout the week were:

Open classes with Madeleine Eastoe

Contemporary class with Olivia Heyworth

Repertoire classes with Kate Reilly

Private lesson with Campbell McKenzie

The ACB contemporary class was fun and challenging and made me use my body in different ways than what I am used to.  I’m used to NZAMD contemporary.  It was great to learn different styles of contemporary since there are so many.

My private lesson with Campbell benefitted me greatly.  He gave me intricate corrections and tweaked my variation to help me perform the steps better.  It was great to learn this from a male teacher who has probably done the same variation before, in a national theatre somewhere in the world in front of a massive audience.  Learning from that kind of experience was invaluable to me, something you can’t get from a book.

A special thanks to Ben and all the teachers for their time and care for me.

Lastly, I’d like to thank the Alana Haines Awards and show my immense gratitude as I have learnt, benefitted and grown so much from this AHA scholarship opportunity.
