Royal Ballet School’s ‘Excellence Award’ 2021

Alfie writes …..

Since my attendance at the Alana Haines awards in April 2019 and having been awarded the Gailene Stock Award for 2019 I have been able to use the award to assist and support me further in my dance training.

Having been offered a place at the Royal Ballet Upper School in Convent Garden London, I commenced my training in September 2020 the course is a 3-year degree course which I hope will lead to a professional contract in a leading Ballet company.

The Royal Ballet School is an amazing school and I have learnt so much, each day is challenging and rewarding and the days are long but I have made so many new friends from all over the world and the teachers are so supportive and get the best out of you every day.

Dancing at an overseas ballet school has been challenging during these difficult times but I have managed to return to Australia for a holiday in July 2021 and dance at my old ballet school The Dance Centre Peregian Springs Queensland, and see all my friends.

My first year at Royal has gone so quickly and I was so happy and surprised to receive the end of year award for excellence and endeavour and also to be selected to perform a solo in the end of year shows. I danced the 1st male peasant pas variation from act 1 of Giselle.

As a year group we had the amazing opportunity to dance at the Lindbury Theatre at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden as well as in studio performances at school.

Our end of year performance was on the main stage at the Royal Opera House.

I have since returned to start my 2nd year at the school. Again I am enjoying every minute of my time at Royal everyday I realise how lucky I am to be able to follow my dream and be a student at this school.

I would like to take this opportunity to again thank Katie and all the team at the Alana Haines Awards for their hard work and all you have done for me and other dancers.

Attending 2 AHA awards has been amazing for me and so much fun and I will always be grateful for the support of the AHA Trust, which has helped me to follow my dreams and travel to London.

I look forward to watching the next AHA Awards in 2023.
