The Alana Haines Awards was an amazing experience and gave me the opportunity to perform onstage and grow as a dancer. Thank you to the Alana Haines Australasian Awards Committee for providing dancers with the support and the opportunity to obtain amazing scholarships such as this. Thank you to the competition adjudicators for giving me this scholarship.

In January 2020 I attended the International Summer School AU summer program. This was a 2 week course from 7-17 January. It was a chance for me to be exposed to techniques and knowledge from teachers all across the world. Across the 2 weeks we had the opportunity to be taught by teachers from schools such as Houston Ballet Academy, English National Ballet Academy, Sydney Dance Company and Jaqueline Kennedy Onassis School in New York City. Because each teacher followed a different style and focused on different things, this helped me become more aware of how to better use different parts of my body and how I could become a more versatile dancer. I was very fortunate to be taught by Cynthia Harvey director of the Jaqueline Kennedy Onassis School. I learnt many interesting things about the ABT method and about the techniques used for that style. I also had the opportunity to learn repertoire from Theme and Variations which was very challenging and exciting. We had a wide variety of classes besides ballet. One of my highlights from the week was stagecraft. We learnt a lot about acting and about how important portraying a story is for the ballet as a whole. We learnt amazing contemporary repertoire from Sydney Dance Company which really made me push outside my comfort zone.

I learnt so much in such a short time. These 2 weeks made me become more aware of the ballet world as a whole and about the diversity among schools and companies. It was such a welcoming and encouraging environment and I am grateful to all the teachers for sharing their endless knowledge with us. I would like to again thank everyone from AHA for this incredible opportunity.
