11 Years Old Student of Expressions Ballet Academy, Geelong, Australia
AHA Awards Junior Finalist 2019
Tanya Pearson Academy 2 Week Full-Time Scholarship
Being part of the Alana Haines Awards 2019 was such an amazing experience. It was the biggest scholarship event I have ever competed in and it was definitely not one that I will ever forget. I was very honoured to have been selected as the youngest finalist out of lots of amazing, beautiful people and because of that, I was awarded a two-week full time scholarship to the Tanya Pearson Academy in Sydney, Australia. I attended Tanya Pearson in November 2019.
The first day at the Academy my full time class (Cygnets) had their assessments so I got to watch them. All of the students in Cygnets were spectacular and very friendly. It was great to see the class’s assessments work that isn’t my own syllabus.
After assessments, all the classes went back to normal. The classes that I did were classical class, character, contempory, PBT (progressing ballet technique), Pilates, stretch and pointe class. My favourite class was PBT because it taught me the correct muscles to use in different steps and how to use them so we don’t get hurt while dancing. Overall, I was challenged in each class and I learnt something new every day.
The exercises that I learnt I will definitely keep using. My teacher that I had for classical class was Miss Catherine and she taught me how to use my deep abdominals properly and not to grip my thighs as much. She was a wonderful teacher and I absolutely loved being taught by her. I also had the honour of being taught by Ms Lucinda Dunn who is such an inspiration to me and taught me so much. Thank you so much Ms Dunn.
Overall I had an AMAZING time at Tanya Pearson Academy and I improved so much in such a short period of time. I would definitely recommend Tanya Pearson Academy and I am honoured to have been selected for the Academy’s Affiliate Program in 2020. I can’t wait!.
Thank you so much Alana Haines Awards and Tanya Pearson for this fantastic opportunity. I will cherish it forever.
