Why Our Dancers Love Ekman...

Dancer Alayna Ng loves Ekman’s choreography:

‘This is my second time in the studio learning an Alexander Ekman piece. His Cacti, which we performed at the end of our triple bill programme Speed of Light [2016] was incredibly fun, comedic and had high energy.

Episode 31 for me is equally as enjoyable. Movements in Episode 31 are fast and precise but in moments it also gives you freedom to use your own unique way of moving, which I love.
Like in Cacti, where we make some sounds with breath, as part of Episode 31 we use our voices to shout out words and numbers and our bodies act as rhythm/ percussion. As dancers, we often use only our bodies to move and tell the story/ message of a piece. So it adds another element when performing, which challenges our minds and bodies.
The music is incredibly catchy - I leave the studios still singing the song [Ane Brun’s ‘Do You Remember’] in my head. I hope the audience will too!
